In this Q&A, we’re finding out more about Sophie Huntbach, our training and compliance manager. Discover what her role entails, her hopes for Trenches Law, and what word she thinks her colleagues would use to describe her…

Every person in the Trenches Law family is important to us, which is why we’ve decided to introduce you to a different member of the team each month – so you can learn more about them.

Summarise your role in one paragraph

As the training and compliance manager, it’s my job to ensure staff have the relevant training in accordance with regulations – while also supporting them with their continuous professional development. In addition, I oversee the company’s processes – adding rigour to our current systems and achieving accreditations.

What is your favourite part of your position at Trenches Law?

I love expanding my knowledge and like to think of myself as a ‘life-long learner’. With this passion, I enjoy developing – and delivering – internal training, and the fulfilment that comes with helping employees, and ultimately, the company, strive for greatness. I believe that an excellent training and development function is crucial to staff happiness, wellbeing, and retention, which is exactly where my job satisfaction comes from – seeing lots of happy, motivated colleagues.

Which one word do you think your colleagues would use to describe you?

I hope they would describe me as ‘passionate’ and, as we get to know each other more, see the care and respect that I have for individuals and their training and development needs.

What word do you think best describes Trenches Law?

Exceptional – the team is so friendly and supportive. This clearly comes from the culture that co-founders Terry [Daniell] and Sharon [McDermott] have created here. It’s such a special place to work and, even remotely, you feel part of a team with a shared vision for excellent service. I feel very grateful.

What’s been the most satisfying moment of your Trenches Law career so far?

Completing a training needs questionnaire with the team. It felt good to collate the information and then look ahead to the development opportunities – before creating materials to meet the needs of staff individually and as a collective. Everyone loves an action plan, right?!

What do you love about the office?

Sadly, with being employed during lockdown, I have only seen pictures, but I am looking forward – if we return to any ‘normality’ this year – to working there and being a part of the office buzz.

If one of your colleagues could win an award (industry or office-related) who would it be and why?

As a new member of the team, I could not give a specific award, but what I can say is that the staff at Trenches Law do not waiver in their compassion and support. I have felt wholly welcomed and cared for here, which I think demonstrates great foundations of people management. In turn, that makes our company very special and a delight to work for.

What are your hopes for Trenches Law in the coming year?

I can see that the business is in a fantastic place for progression, with lots of opportunities on the doorstep. I hope we continue to see such success – and for the training and compliance department to flourish, equipping all employees with the necessary knowledge, skills and support they need to prosper.
